Privacy policy
Last updated November 2, 2026
The short version. Ozwald uses your information to run the app: your calendar, your friends and your plans. Friends see only what you choose to share. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track or share your location. You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
Who we are
Ozwald is an app for seeing when friends are free and making plans together. In this policy, "Ozwald", "we" and "us" mean the people who make the app. You can reach us at the contact on our Support page.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address, name, username and password (stored only as a secure hash), and two-factor settings if you turn them on.
- Your profile. Anything you add: photo, cover photo, photo wall, bio, birthday, interests, prompts, favorite spots, neighborhood, school or work. You choose what to fill in.
- Your calendar. Events you create in Ozwald and events from calendars you choose to connect (iPhone, Google or Outlook). These are used to show your schedule and to tell friends when you're busy or free.
- Friends and social activity. Friend requests, friends, close friends (never shown to them), groups and clubs, messages, plans, RSVPs, comments, likes, check-ins, "I'm down" signals, and private notes you write about friends.
- Notes, tasks and files. Notes, to-do lists, shared lists and photos or files you add to groups.
- Contacts, only if you allow it. To help you find friends, phone numbers and emails from your contacts are turned into one-way codes (hashes) on your phone before anything is sent. We compare codes only; we don't receive or store your contacts' names or numbers.
- Conversations with the Ozwald assistant. What you ask by voice or text and the replies, so the assistant can help you.
- On the website. If you use Ozwald in a browser, your sign-in and your settings are kept in that browser's storage for this site. Signing out removes the sign-in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Device and app information. A push notification token, your time zone, app settings, and error reports and feedback you send.
Location
Ozwald does not track or share your location. If you allow it, your phone uses your location on the device to work out travel time to your next event. The weather on your Today screen is looked up using an approximate place. Your location is never shown to friends.
What friends and others can see
- By default, friends see only whether you're busy or free. For each friend you can choose to share nothing, busy/free, or event details.
- Your profile is visible to your friends. People who aren't your friends see only your name, username and photo. You can turn off "Let contacts find me" in Friends & privacy.
- Plans are visible to the people you share them with. If you share a plan as a link, anyone with that link can see the plan's title, time, place and host's first name, and answer with their first name.
- Public club pages show only what the club chooses to make public.
- Your notes, tasks, private friend notes and close friends list are never shown to anyone else.
How we use your information
We use it to provide and improve Ozwald: to show your calendar, find free time with friends, deliver plans, messages and notifications, run the assistant, keep accounts secure, and fix problems. We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
Services we use
We share information with these providers only as needed to run Ozwald. They process it on our behalf:
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in, file storage and server code.
- Anthropic (Claude) powers the Ozwald assistant. Your message and the calendar, friend and task details needed to answer it are sent to Anthropic to generate a reply.
- OpenAI is used only to turn the assistant's replies into spoken audio.
- Expo and Apple deliver push notifications.
- Open-Meteo provides the weather forecast, using an approximate place.
- Apple, Google and Microsoft calendars, when you connect them. Ozwald reads and updates those calendars only for the features you use.
Google user data
If you connect a Google account, Ozwald uses Google Calendar data only to show your events in Ozwald, keep changes in sync in both directions, and show friends whether you're busy or free according to your sharing settings. Ozwald's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't use Google data for advertising, don't sell it, and don't use it to train AI models. People can read it only with your permission, for security, or where the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. Some things expire on their own: "I'm down" signals, check-ins and status updates disappear after a short time, and ended plans are cleaned up. When you delete your account, your profile, calendar, messages, notes, photos and files are deleted. Backups are removed on a rolling schedule.
Your choices
- Change what each friend can see, or turn off "Let contacts find me", in Friends & privacy.
- Turn off contacts, calendar, location and notification access at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
- Remove any connected calendar.
- Delete your account in the app: tap your photo, then the gear, then Delete account. Or contact us and we'll do it for you.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct it, by contacting us.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access rules that let each person see only what they're allowed to. You can turn on two-factor authentication for extra protection. No system is perfect, so please use a strong password.
Children
Ozwald isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we make important changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app.
